550 metres of rendered facade
on a listed holiday resort

An outer facade restored to listed building standards with contemporary thermal insulation

The challenge awaiting Protektor in the Prora district of Binz on the island of Rügen was not one you encounter everyday: refurbishing a listed building of monumental proportions to listed building standards, and converting it into a modern holiday resort. Among the many challenges, focus centred on the outer façade measuring 550 metres in length. After all, the longer and bigger a building is, the more important a role is played by the outer facade in defining the overall impression.

Protektor profiles give structure to the new façade
As with most old buildings, high quality plaster surfaces were in short supply. So the imperfections and flaws on the original facade were remedied with insulating plaster. Protektor profiles made creation of the sophisticated design easier: Corner bead no. 1065 and base profile no. 1265 with plastic coating were the perfect choice for fitting the 50 mm insulating plaster. Setting the profiles at irregular intervals made it possible to carefully and inconspicuously remedy imperfections in the original facade. Nowadays the entire length of the facade is modern, inviting, and bright white.

It’s problems we need. We already have ample solutions.
